The All-New One Ingredient Chef Website is Here!

iPadNewSite

It’s here! Over the last few months, I’ve been secretly toiling away on a completely new website for One Ingredient Chef. If you have noticed that my posting schedule has been a little lighter recently, that’s why. In addition to a new website design, there’s also several new features that I would like to share with you in this post.

While the original layout was great at powering the website to this point, things have expanded a lot over these first 15 months. That old design began to feel a bit constrained.

OneIngredientChef.com needed a design that is fresher, cleaner, more flexible, and fits into the larger One Ingredient mission. My original goal with One Ingredient Chef was never to create another “food blog” that just shares an endless stream of recipes. There’s too many of those already. I have been wanting to offer a broader set of resources that make it easier to live a whole-food, plant-based lifestyle. Recipes are a huge part of that, of course, but not the whole picture. I also want this website to offer more healthy cooking articles, free downloadable content, and more. This new design adds the flexibility to bring all of that together over the coming months.

That’s why I intentionally chose to go in a different direction from the typical food blog when designing this new website. The recipes have a custom layout with large full-width photography and clean type that makes them easier than ever to read. There’s also a different layout for blog posts & articles (like the one you’re reading). I’ve also created a new logo, a new homepage, and a custom layout for resource pages. Overall, I’m really happy with the new design and I hope you like it as much as I do.

These new design elements are great, but the changes also go much deeper. There are a handful of new features that I think you’re going to love:

Free Healthy Cooking Toolkit

One of the most exciting new features I’m announcing is the healthy cooking toolkit that’s available for free starting today. This includes three downloadable resources: an updated One Ingredient Diet Manifesto, two healthy meal plans (plus a template for your own), and the Archive Cookbook with 80 recipes. My goal is to make it easier than ever to eat a whole-food, plant-based diet and this toolkit can help kickstart that journey. You can download it on the homepage, or if you’re already on my email list, I’ll send you a message with updated download links later today.

Updated Resource Pages

As mentioned, I’m looking forward to offering more content and resources to help make a plant-based lifestyle easier and more delicious than ever. To that end, I’ve updated the One Ingredient Diet page with new information, and created the framework for more pages / articles of this type in the future. Additionally, a long-overdue about page is now up. You can read the story of how One Ingredient Chef got started and also learn a little more about me.

AboutPage

Recipe Browser

As this site has accumulated more recipes, I wanted an easier way for you to sort through all of them. On this new page, you can browse recipes by course (Breakfast, Dessert), browse by topic (kale, gluten free), or search by keyword. And, it has a grid featuring all of the most recent recipes. If you visit the site often, you may want to bookmark this page to stay up-to-date with the latest content and have easy access to the recipe archives.

Creative Commons

Lastly, as you can see in the footer, I’ve decided to release all the content on One Ingredient Chef under a creative commons license. This means that you are now free to share my content (recipes, text, photos, etc.), without prior permission, for a number of uses. Under this specific license (Attribution-NonCommercial 4.0 International), you have the right to share under any noncommercial use as long as you provide a link back to the original page. I think this free sharing of information is incredibly important. “Reproduction is strictly prohibited and violators will be sued!” is such a 20th century fear-based concept that doesn’t fit into the One Ingredient message at all. I’m excited to be one of the first food bloggers to take this step.

So while a lot of things are very new, one thing that hasn’t changed is the mission. Over the coming months, I’m committed to working harder than ever to create more deliciously healthy recipes and articles and and products to share with you. There will be lot of exciting announcements to come later this year 🙂

So that’s a quick overview of the new site… what do you think? The design is still in its early stages so please let me know if you have any feedback to share or if you notice any issues. The comments are open below!

  1. Beautiful! I look forward to engaging with your new website. (But truth be told if you communicated via post-it notes I’d collect them.)

    • Thanks so much, Sabine! Yes – the future is post-it note recipes delivered via snail mail! I can see it now 😀

  2. The new design looks great – clean lines, clear navigation and the new logo is awesome! Your recipes are some of my favorites and many are in regular rotation at my table.

  3. Andrew your new site is absolutely awesome! Great navigation on recipes, and as always I love your images that company your #yumfactor recipes!
    Keep em coming!

    Thank you!
    Teri

  4. Beautiful website design! I made your chick pea coconut recipe for the second time when we had guests last week and they loved it.

    • Thanks, Marina! The recipe browser is still a work in progress. I have to go back to old recipes and add all the keywords, so it’ll be even more useful in a week or two 😉

  5. Andrew, this is amazing. I’ve only recently started following your website but I’m already hooked. Can’t wait to see what else you have in store!

  6. Looks amazing Andrew! I love it all, especially how it’s more geared away from the typical blog-type layout. Resourceful and very professional! That’s something I wish to achieve one day as well, and bring more of an informational aspect to the site… Hopefully in time.

    Congrats!!!

    😀

    • Thank you, Melissa! I’m glad you like the new layout. I know what you mean wanting to do more – there’s always more you want to do with your blog, right? 🙂

  7. It looks really nice! One thing I did wonder (it might just be me since I’m not always the most intuitive this way) is if there is a way to search right from the front page. I didn’t know where to search until I read this and realized I might have to click on the recipes tab first. I am always searching for specific favorite recipes from your site… I should just print them, but it seems like I’m on doing that almost every day!

    • Hey Danielle, thanks for the comments! No there is no search option right from the homepage. The easiest option is to bookmark or navigate to the recipe page, as you mentioned, to search from there.

  8. Your website is gorgeous! The whole design works really well with your concept. The only tiny little thing is that we liked it so much that we wanted to subscribe to your newsletter, but it took some time to find where to do that.

    • Thank you! Oh, the newsletter is the same as the signup form on the homepage. Thanks for that feedback though, I’ll look again to make sure that’s clear, and possibly add something to the sidebar as well!
