10 Reasons to Download the New Ingredients Recipe App

It’s true, a One Ingredient Chef APP!

If you’re wondering why I’ve been totally MIA for a month, well, this is why! I’ve been locked away coding, designing, and testing this brand new mobile app and I could not be more excited to share it with you.

The app is called “Ingredients” and it features nearly *all* of my recipes (over 275 in total) that have been reformatted and remastered into this all-new medium. Seriously, I’ve been using the app myself during testing and I think it is the best / fastest / most intuitive way to use my recipes. Here’s a quick video demo I made about it:

The app is available now for both iPhone and Android at the following links:

…but if you need more convincing, here’s a roundup of 10 reasons why you definitely want to download this app today 🙂

1. 20x Faster

As you can see in the video, the app is optimized to be lightning fast. You can go from opening the app to viewing the ingredients for your chosen recipe in about 2 seconds. I think my website works great, but this is at least an order of magnitude faster than browsing the website. And part of the reason it’s so fast is –

2. No Ads

I’ve been thinking (and writing) a lot lately about how to move away from an ad-based monetization strategy to something more meaningful and this is a step in that direction. For a small one-time fee you can access all my recipes with no ads. This makes the experience so much faster and smoother, and allows me to reduce my overall need to run ads on the website as well.

3. TONS of Content

As mentioned, there are 275 recipes in this app, including over 80 main dishes, 50 desserts, 50 breakfasts, and much more. Each recipe includes a full-screen photo, description, and “meta data” like cook time and servings. All of them in your pocket, accessible anytime, anywhere.

4. Discovery

But all of this content can be overwhelming if not organized properly. One of the frustrations with my website is that things get lost so quickly. Do you remember those insane taquitos with black bean filling? Or the no-bake vegan Twix bars? Exactly. That’s why my primary focus with the app was discoverability, with the “shuffle” feature, curated collections, search, and detailed tags, it makes it so much easier to find hidden gems and get inspired.

5. Favorites

Each recipe can be saved to your own personal favorites folder, available right at the top of the main screen for easy access. I’ve found these really convenient to store my own staples that I make regularly. It’s like having your own personal recipe box to keep track of what you’ve made and loved, or what you’d like to try next.

6. Exclusive Recipes

Right now, the app tracks my website pretty closely but the great thing about apps (as opposed to cookbooks) is that they can be updated, and I plan on creating some new recipes that will only be available in the app over the coming months.

7. Cook Easier

As you can see in the video, ingredients and steps can be checked off as you go, which makes it so much easier to keep track of your progress as you’re working through a recipe. The layout was designed around what matters: actually cooking the recipe as clearly, quickly, and intuitively as possible. Personally, I’ve been having a lot of fun with it and use it exclusively when making my own recipes (no I don’t have them all memorized even though I created them 🙂 ).

8. Unbeatable Price

I wanted to make Ingredients affordable and accessible to virtually anyone, so the price is just $4.99 – including all 275 recipes. That’s like 1/5 the cost of one cookbook and you get lifetime updates with new content as well.

9. Free Updates

This is just version 1.0.0! Again, apps can be updated so easily that I can push out content almost as easily as posting it on my website. Some recipe apps nickel and dime you with subscriptions and extra recipe packs, none of that here. All of the planned updates will be free – no subscriptions or in-app purchases required.

10. Supports Development

Finally, projects like this really resonate with me moving forward. I love things that are ad-free, that create additional value, and use technology to create new access to a healthy lifestyle. With the success of this app, I can make new investments into exciting plant-based cooking projects in the future. This is really just the first step.

————————

So! Those are some of the reasons why I think the new “Ingredients” app is worth checking out. This has really been a labor of love of mine for quite some time. I’ve done all of the design, layout, coding, and recipe entries myself to get them just right. The great thing is that this is version 1.0.0 – I’m sure there is much more content, features, and development still to come.

I called this app Ingredients as a nod to my One Ingredient philosophy – to eat plant-based food that starts out as one whole ingredient, to cut out the processing and return to a more natural and harmonious way of eating that can literally save lives and our planet all at once. Ingredients is really the distillation of that message into the simplest, easiest, and most portable format. My hope is that it will help more and more people switch to an unprocessed diet.

The app is available for both iPhone and Android today. You can check it out at the following links:

  1. Congratulation on the new app Andrew! I’m certain that it is going to be the first place I go for great recipes. The layout and functionality is terrific.

I took your online course a few years back and it was game changing for me. You taught me so much about how to cook delicious food without being a gourmet. Your recipes have become a staple in our house and I’ve shared them with friends and family.

Thanks so much and all the best wishes for great success with the app!

  2. I have a smart phone and now I have a reason to learn to use it!!
Have always loved your recipes and missed you!

  3. Just download the app… u had me hooked with ur vegan Shepard’s pie.. a fab dish and so many compliments thank u. I normally don’t download or buy but you’ve deft got some lovely recipes. Thank you and wish you much success! I look forward to using the app.

  4. I have been a fan of your recipes for a long time and I have tried to like your new app but, unfortunately, I have had to go back to using the website. The app requires too much scrolling to click back-and-forth between ingredients and directions. Plus, half my screen is wasted with the photo and title of the recipe, so my viewing space is only the bottom half of my phone. I love your recipes, but not the functionality of the app. I’m thankful for your website…you have been a great inspiration to me in my struggle to eat a low inflammatory diet. Keep it coming!

    • I’m sorry to hear that, Regina, but thank you for sharing your feedback. I personally find the mobile experience quite a bit easier to navigate than my website, but I am always looking to update and optimize the experience, so I have noted your feedback and will see what I can do to improve it in the future.
